I am desired by His Excellency Sir Richard Graves MacDonnell to acknowledge receipt of yours of the 17th instant, and to state in reply that His Excellency perceives the Major General Commanding is under very grave misapprehensions as to the nature and extent of the communications made to this Government.

The part taken by this Colony in the late Survey fund to Coll Sury. 22 Dec 1866 of the War Department in connection with Captn Hartmann, Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General.
